Woodville freshman Carrington Marendes will be competing in the track and field state championships in Austin next weekend, taking part in the 100 and 400-meter races, as well as shot-put. Born without femur bones, Carrington has been in a wheelchair his whole life, but the disability that got him down when he was younger hasn't stopped him from joining the legacy of his older brothers in becoming a star athlete. "As I got older, I realized that I can do a whole bunch of things if I put my mind to it," he says. His love of sports and faith have been a source of inspiration, and he is now not only a competitive force on the track, but in basketball, as well. And for those who know him, he has become a source of inspiration to never give up on their own dreams. "I don't say I'm handicapped, I say handicapable. I'm handicapable of being me and doing the things I want to do." Photo taken Tuesday, May 3, 2016 Kim Brent/The Enterprise
